The Chhath Puja, a
festival concluding with offerings to the setting sun, is dedicated to
worshipping the revered sun god, Surya. This four-day celebration involves
devotees paying homage to Surya through various rituals. As the Chhath
festivities culminate with devotees offering arghya (oblations) to the setting
sun, people gather along the banks of rivers, ponds, and lakes to perform the
final worship. Throughout the night preceding the conclusion of Chhath Puja, devotees remain awake, engaging in prayers along the riverside. The worshippers, adorned much like brides, gather in the thousands at the shores of ponds and rivers to perform their rituals. The arghya offered to the rising and setting sun yesterday, and today's worship of the setting sun, are heartfelt expressions of devotion.
With the aim of seeking family happiness, peace, well-being, liberation from illness, and fulfillment of various desires, devotees wholeheartedly worship Surya during this festival. The vibrant and sincerecelebrations are a testament to the deep spiritual significance attached to the worship of the sun god.
